Why do I need a private tutor for my child?
Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific disability in language learning, especially reading. Kids with dyslexia have trouble pronouncing words, reading accurately and fluently. They may also have trouble with reading comprehension, spelling and writing.

School Approach
Schools usually place all reading diagnoses into one category: “Specific Learning Disability”.
This general term makes it is possible for the school to implement the same intervention to multiple students that may have different reading goals and learning styles. Limited resources make this method necessary for most school districts. This may result in your student not receiving effective intervention for his/her specific learning challenges.
Additionally, to provide these services students are removed from the classroom missing instruction and time with their peers. If they are not experiencing success, they may become increasingly frustrated and discouraged at school.
Getting Results
It is important that students with dyslexia receive tutoring from a certified instructor. There are levels to the certification instructors may have and we recommend that you verify the instructor is either a WRS Level I or WRS Level II Certified Teacher. Finding and verifying their certification can be done with the Wilson Language link below.
A child with dyslexia should be in a program that contains the following characteristics:
- Mulitisensory
- Systematic
- Explicit
- Direct and Integrated instruction
An Individualized Approach
At the Cole Center your child will receive an individualized program from a certified dyslexia practitioner specializing in the Wilson Reading
System.
Our goal is to provide your child with a caring and supportive environment where he/she can learn the tools needed to be successful in school, and more importantly, in life.
To accomplish this we utilize a one to one setting for a minimum of 50 minutes twice a week.
